The Start of it allOnce upon a time there was a new bride who was sent to Tauranga with her bald headed old husband to a 25 acre property in Omanawa. This beautiful lady was called Lynda. After a while Lynda realised that she was so missing her animals and 2 dogs and 2 cats was just not enough to fill in her day. So she said to her loving husband why don't we get a miniature horse to help us eat the grass? Perfectly logical you say. Little did he know that this was only the beginning.
So off they went and would you believe it they found a tiny little horse called SKYLA.
Well it was love at first sight, and home he came to Windsong. The husband watched as a loving bond developed between Lynda and Skyla. They talked to one another endlessly and dinner became later and later. It was not very long before the matter of showing came up and all the necessaries had to be purchased. Well you can imagine when he won!!!!!!!. Lynda was hooked and began studying all she could find and slowly but surely developed her very special way of training and Skyla was at the center of it all.
Together they went from strength to strength and over the years Skyla became the most winningest horse in NZ.
Windsong was developed when Lynda and Tony Hawkins began their experience with miniature horses, and the purchase of a special gelding called Skyla. Together they formed a bond and understanding as to what miniature horses could expect from humans.
Tony was fortunate, whilst overseas, to meet the owners of S G Miniatures, Roan Ranger Al Glass & Jo Spino. They began purchasing stock from America with a vision of beginning a breeding program. Jo & Al's experience was invaluable and ensured that the stock he purchased was of the highest quality and would provide an excellent base for breeding in New Zealand. Tony was present at the birth of a Roan Rangers progeny Rangers Kiwi and subsequently purchased him.
It became extremely evident that miniature horses were to play an important part in the Hawkins' philosophy of life, and Skyla was to play an important part in the development of the Windsong Miniature Horse Stud ,Omanawa, New Zealand.
Breeders in Australia are now beginning to recognise the quality of Windsong horses and have added them to their own breeding programs. Windsong believes that breeders from America will begin to look outside of their own country and expect horses will eventually be exported back to America.
Most of the horses imported in to New Zealand along with the progency from them have gained champion status, and many are multi-supreme champions. The stallions are also multi champions and supreme champions each year the standard of the Windsong foals improve, many already achieving champion status. |
